Have a look in your Cossacks Data folder in the Text folder and see if you find the file be2.txt
It has references and hints and tips on the usage of the Battle Editor like this:

As you can see, the text doesn't display properly on English ( Western) Computers. Can you check if this this text displays in proper Russian on your version.
And if so, is it possible to translate it to english?
