Thought there is something I dont understand. Why is there in the english version a patch01.gs1 but no ichat.dll and in the russian version there is no patch01.gs1 but an ichat.dll

These look similar version but surely cant be compatible with eachother if the files are different.

Both versions do have a new engine exe. This is what I meant with new options are run from the engine it self in a previous post.
Without the source code to the dmcr.exe I do not believe that you can create new options. S

In any case, it's weird, different versions cant work toghether. Moreover, without patch01.gs1 inside the russian version there is no lobby.txt to change the version number to 1.36, so the russian version has to be incomplete ( at least the link you gave me). And so is the the english version because it misses the required ichat.dll to make the new engine work.

Also, I don't mind about it, I'm just pointing out to you that in order to create new options you should try to get hold of the source code from one of those people, otherwise you will not be able to create new options as you mentionned in previous posts.

I tried opening the patch in above link, I seem to experience the same problem as you. I can't tell wether it is a problem with the japanese version of Windows 7 or with the japanese version of patch01.gs1. For me the patch01.gs1 on Windows 7 does not give me a problem.

I'm inclined to think that Windows 7 is not the problem, but rather the inability of these decrypting tools to handle Japanese characters. (Is your cossacks game in Japanese or another language?)

I'v tried various ways known to me to bypass problems like this ( including renaming the file to open it with gsc viewer) and neither of these methods has worked for me.

The only thing that worked was right-clicking on the .gs1 file and "open with" notepad / wordpad. Then it opens the content of the patch, however this is a bit a confusing method to work, because it, well try it out and you will see why. It doesn't work very handy from a modding perspective since it lists all the files in one text file

The only thing I can do at this point, is add this issue to my ' to ask' list for GSC Game World and see what they think about it.

What error did you get from dmcr.exe?
