Incompatible drivers and Cossacks 2bfe

| The copyright driver installed from gsc from my old cossacks2bfe DVD disk refuses to work in my windows vista. I've tried run in Xp, admin access or whatnot, it will not work. I also don't recall I fixed it last time when I installed it before my computer crashed; I just applied a no cd patch last time (the legality of which is arguably okay when the copy is original and can be arguably be counted as modding).
Cossacks 2 will not work without loading this copyright driver.
Now, I don't want to do that again because it makes the campaign not work and normal gameplay unstable.
Is there any way to fix this? Update does not seem to work.
(Incidentally, is the steam version copyright driver free?)
Update your Cossacks and American Conquest Icons to a more modern look!
Ditch Windows, use Linux and still use the best RTS game in the world Cossacks!

| Steam version is copy rite free, I believe. Do not know how it could be?
Do you not have the cd/dvd?
You could try to re install?

Also, yes, I have tried reinstalling it. It didn't work though.
Update your Cossacks and American Conquest Icons to a more modern look!

| If I purchase C II BFE off of steam, can I still mode it?
